Air Brake Course

City Truck & forklift Driving School, has graduated lots of students since 2000. City Truck & Forklift Driving School is designed to prepare individuals to become entry-level truck and bus drivers, forklift and heavy equipment operators through the use of modern technologies and late-model equipment. In addition, emphasis is placed on safety, on a thorough understanding of MTO's rules and regulations, in the operation of equipment, and on defensive driving techniques necessary in developing skill levels required to pass Commercial Driver's License Examination.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR PROGRAM

Objectives
The graduate of the program will acquire the skills and knowledge required to become a safe entry-level heavy equipment operator.

Course Content

Job Communications & Evaluate the Job Site
Communication with others in the work environment.
Inspect the work layout area and apply line, grades and off-set.

Perform Pre-start Inspection
Complete walk-around inspection. Perform daily maintenance.
Lubricate the machine and top up all fluid levels.

Complete Operational Checks
Start the engine. Monitor engine performance, electrical system, brake system, air cleaner indicator and warning systems. Cycle the machine.

Operational Procedures
Practices safe operating procedures including warm and cold weather starting, stripping, cutting, filling, carrying, lifting and dumping the bucket, loading from a bank or stockpile, peeling and scraping, backfilling, breaking and spreading large piles, and various types of trenching procedures.

Complete Shut-Down and Parking Procedures
Prepare machine for parking and park the machine.
Peform shut-down procedures with the engine running and shut off.
Place warning signs around parked equipment.

Perform Machine Adjustment and Maintenance
Track adjustment and machine maintenance procedures.

Load, Transport, Unloading Procedures
Prepares the machine for transport. Load machine on float.
Secure the machine on  float and unload the machine.

Introduction to Survey and Layout
Introduce and familiarize students with equipments used by surveyors and contractors for determining grades, depths and other job site measurements

Surface Miner Common Core Program (classroom theory)
This certification is required for drivers and operators that do extraction work in quarries or sand pits. This program teaches modules in its Common.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate with receive "Wallet Cards & Certificates"

Career Options
The career outlook for heavy equipment operators is good. The transpostation and sanitary systems infrastructure of most cities and states is aging, so rehabilitation is an ongoing activity. As baby boomers who work in this field reach retirement age, there are more job slots than trained employees. This career field is now open to men and women who get the necessary training and get licensed to operate basic and advanced heavy construction equipment.






TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER'S PROGRAM

Objective
The graduate of the program will learn the skills required to become an entry level commercial truck driver.

Overview
The program covers the laws and regulations governing the trucking industry and the role and the responsibilities of the truck driver. The practical component of the course will prepare an individual to pass the Ministry of Transportation Road Test and Air Brake Endorsement (Z) and then to succeed in the industry based road test. The graduate will have the skills required to work and succeed in the trucking industry.

Course Content
  • In-class training & practical training for Air Brake, video study and simulations, hours of service (Log Book), map reading, transportation of dangerous goods, handling of cargo, trip planning, tractor-trailer driver handbook/workbook, reviewing & final testing.
  • Practical worl experience such as, in cab check, progressive shifting, clutch brake, double clutching, brake checks, road driving, safe turns & lane positioning, city and outside city driving, merging and exiting highways and road test preparation.
  • Yard Training - Truck familiarization, under hood inspection, pre-trip inspection on truck and trailer, post trip inspection, coupling & uncoupling, backing, startegies for confined spaces.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will receive the following:
  • MTO Class A Driver's License
  • MTO Air Brake (Z) Endorsement & Certificate
